$8,470 Canadian Dividend Portfolio Update: August 2021 | TFSA
In July 2021, I finally got control over my TFSA from Fidelity and converted it into a dividend portfolio. So, August marks the first month since I reshuffled all my investments within my TFSA. Not only the investment increased significantly, but we also hit a new dividend income goal.
I had to dissolve the investments in my personal registered account with Wealthsimple Trade and move them to my TFSA in Wealthsimple Trade in cash. Wealthsimple does not allow the transfer of stocks between accounts. So, I lost the value advantage of the dips I bought during December 2020. I had to rebuy the stock on the rebound.
Dividend Portfolio Value
At the end of August 2021, I had invested $8,470 into my dividend portfolio. The total market value of this investment had reduced to $8,316 by the month end. This represents a decrease of $154 or 1.82% of my portfolio.
But, as a dividend investor, the market value of my portfolio matters little to me. The irony of this dip in market value is that it is mainly due to the ONLY growth stock I hold in my portfolio. On top of this one other dividend stock suffered a drop in market price.
Canadian Dividend Portfolio breakdown: August 2021
Last month, I shaved off my portfolio from 12 companies to 7 companies. Throughout August, I only bought into the same stocks, i.e. I did not buy into any new companies. The drop in prices of some companies provided buying opportunities.
Below is the complete breakdown of my portfolio at the end of August 2021.
Company | Ticker | No. of Shares | Purchase Price | Total Value at Cost |
Keyera Corp. | KEY | 76 | $31.74 | $2,411.86 |
Pembina Pipeline Corp. | PPL | 25 | $39.45 | $986.25 |
Enbridge Inc. | ENB | 20 | $49.55 | $991.00 |
North-West Health Prop REIT | NWH.UN | 65 | $13.15 | $854.75 |
Timbercreek Financial | TF | 160 | $9.61 | $1,537.20 |
Newport Exploration Ltd | NWX | 1,155 | $0.45 | $519.75 |
CloudMD Software | DOC.V | 600 | $1.95 | $1,170.00 |
Total | $8,470.81 |
During the month, I added more of Keyera Corp. stocks since the share price dipped. I also bought into Newport Exploration with some cash leftover from other investments. One of the main investments I undertook during the month was adding to Timbercreek Financial to create a dividend snowball rolling. I believe I will be able to start the snowball from September onward.
Dividend Income update: August 2021
As expected, August 2021 was my highest ever dividend earning in the 9 months of my dividend investing journey. This is merely thanks to the additional $6,400 I invested in July after taking control of my TFSA.
I also have a couple of quarterly dividend investments which did not pay out in August. So, I’m expecting a higher dividend income in quarter ends.
For the month of August 2021, my total dividend income was …*drumroll*… $20.42.
Below is the complete breakdown of my dividend income for 2021.

Total | $1.664 | $1.667 | $2.79 | $1.74 | $2.65 | $8.91 | $6.63 | $20.42 | $46.47 |
August saw a pretty decent jump in my monthly dividend income. This dividend income allows me to buy a few shares of the same companies so I can start my dividend snowball rolling.
I will end up with a grand total of $219 dividend income for the year 2021. However, on an annualized basis of my latest earnings, the portfolio will yield around 6.13%, which is pretty great.
I will continue to add funds to my TFSA and max it out as soon as possible so that my money will get the most time possible to grow.
Conclusion
August was a great month of dividend income and September is going to be even better. I have plans to accelerate my investments and the dividend snowball will also help accelerate the journey.
So, that’s it for this month’s update, and looking forward to sharing with you all the updates in September.
